With deep sorrow, family, friends, classmates, and the DeMotte Christian Schools community are mourning the heartbreaking passing of Jorie Rottier, a Class of 2025 student, who tragically lost her life following a devastating multi-vehicle crash in Jasper County, Indiana.
According to preliminary reports from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred on June 8, 2026, at approximately 12:17 p.m. on State Road 10 near County Road 1100 West in DeMotte. Authorities reported that multiple 911 calls were received regarding a serious collision involving several vehicles.
Investigators stated that a 2013 Ford Fusion struck the rear of a 2006 Mini Cooper driven by 19-year-old Marjorie Rottier. The impact caused the Mini Cooper to veer into the opposite lane, where it was subsequently struck by another vehicle. A chain-reaction collision followed involving additional vehicles traveling in the area.
Despite all occupants reportedly wearing seat belts and airbags deploying upon impact, Jorie sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.
Emergency services, including local fire departments, EMS personnel, and law enforcement agencies, responded quickly to the crash site. Several other individuals involved in the collision sustained injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
News of Jorie’s passing has left her school community devastated. DeMotte Christian Schools described her as a bright, kind-hearted student whose gentle spirit, faith, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Teachers and classmates remember her for her kindness, positivity, and the meaningful connections she built during her time at the school.
Her family, Rich and Laura Rottier, along with the wider community, continue to receive an outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Many are holding onto cherished memories as they try to process the sudden and painful loss.
